At Bankwood we ensure children engage in a range of physical activity as part of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Our aims are:
To enable children to acquire, develop and explore physical skills with increasing control and co-ordination.
To stimulate and maintain pupil interest and enjoyment in P.E and promote health and fitness.
To support the social and moral development of our children through the way we expect them to work with each other in lessons and in group situations.
To teach children to recognise and describe how their bodies feel during exercise.
For children to develop an understanding of how to succeed in a range of physical activities and how to evaluate their own success.
Physical education here at Bankwood develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, athletics, games, gymnastics, swimming and outdoor adventure activities. Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus, we enable them to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.
Our playground monitors play a key role in promoting physical activities at lunchtime. They are skilled at leading games and promote teamwork and friendships on the school yard. We also offer a range of lunchtime and afterschool clubs throughout the school year (all free of charge). This year they have included- Family football, let’s get cooking, dance-a-cise, multi-skills, athletics club, judo, swimming, cricket club and tennis coaching.
