Governor Pen Portraits

Wendy Edwards, Executive Headteacher

I am very excited to be leading the newly formed federation between Bankwood Community Primary School and Carfield Primary School.  Both schools will be working together to provide a rich and exciting curriculum for our children.  Staff will benefit from sharing expertise across the two sites.

About me:

I have a Bachelor of Education in teaching, a Master’s degree in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and over twenty years’ experience in school leadership. As a lifelong learner I enjoy keeping updated with current practice in order to meet the requirements of the new curriculum and recent changes in OFSTED inspections.  I am also the proud mother of three grown up boys and in my spare time love to read, listen to music and visit the theatre. Walking in green spaces is also a favourite and allows me the mental space to work strategically and creatively across the two schools.

Currently, I am executive Headteacher of Bankwood Community Primary School and Carfield Primary School and a local leader. As local leader I have the opportunity to support locality schools with peer, pupil premium and SEND reviews. Also, working with the locality, we can support new initiatives into the schools and provide opportunities to access funding pots and/or training.

We continue to drive the curriculum to ensure that it motivates children and inspires young minds to have high aspirations.

Peter Dickson, Chair of Governors

Peter works for the Local Authority’s People Directorate where he manages a service dealing with challenging school issues surrounding children, their parents and carers and works closely with head teachers and other governing bodies across the city. His particular areas of expertise are in child protection procedures, behaviour, inclusion, SEN, attendance and a wide range of difficult pupil issues. He is passionate about education and about developing the life chances and opportunities for all children and young people. After a working life in industry and business, retirement has given me the opportunity to volunteer in Sheffield schools. I would like to use my experience and skills to enable and maintain the already high standards at Bankwood School.
